THE LEAN IN / LEAN OUT METHOD

Create space. Regain perspective. Choose your next move.

Sometimes pushing harder isn't the answer. The skill is knowing what you need, when you need it.

Your state shapes your perspective. Your perspective shapes how you lead.

Not simply breathwork.

RESET helps you notice your state, understand what you need, create space when necessary, regain perspective and then move forward with intention.

Breathwork is one important tool inside it. The central skill is knowing when to step back and regulate, and when to step forward and act.

Lean Out gives you perspective. Lean In turns perspective into action.

Two moves. Both are strengths.

01 — MAKE SPACE

Lean Out

Create space.

Lean Out is not avoidance, weakness or giving up. It's intentionally creating enough space to see clearly before deciding what comes next. Tools may include breathing, pausing, body awareness and other regulation practices.

  1. Awareness
  2. Acceptance
  3. Regulation
  4. Safety
  5. Calm
  6. Perspective
02 — MOVE WITH PURPOSE

Lean In

Move forward.

Once you have enough perspective, Lean In is about choosing the next meaningful action instead of reacting from pressure.

  1. Intentional Action
  2. Purpose
  3. Connection
  4. Precision
  5. Clarity
THE RESET TIPTo Lean Out is a reset, not a retreat. Use it to settle the system so you can Lean In with the energy and clear intention your next move needs.

Tools you can start with.

The Lean Out Pause

Before you react, pause for three breaths. Then decide what comes next.

Breathe → Reset → Act

A simple sequence: steady your state first, regain perspective, then choose your action.

Emotions as information

Instead of suppressing an emotion, ask what it may be asking for.

anxiety → safety
sadness → connection
frustration → progress

These are practical tools and reflective frameworks. They are not medical treatment.

THE WINDOW OF TOLERANCE

Know which zone you're in.

Your nervous system moves between three states. Most people bounce between wired and flat without realising it. Knowing your zone tells you whether you need to Lean Out or Lean In.

Red ZoneABOVE THE WINDOW · HYPERAROUSAL

Wired, anxious, overwhelmed, reactive. Your mind races, your chest tightens and everything feels urgent.

Lean Out: pause, breathe and ground yourself to come back into the window.

Green ZoneYOUR WINDOW OF TOLERANCE

Safe, regulated, calm and clear. You can think clearly, respond instead of react, and do hard things.

Lean In: this is where growth happens.

Grey ZoneBELOW THE WINDOW · HYPOAROUSAL

Flat, numb, disconnected, low energy. A functional freeze where even small tasks feel huge. It can look like doom scrolling, procrastinating or numbing out.

Reset: use breath, movement and awareness to shift your state.

YOUR BRAIN CREW

Know who's running the show.

Once you understand the key players in your head, you can stop fighting your reactions and start leading your system.

PREFRONTAL CORTEX

The Wise Owl

The CEO of your brain. Decision-making, self-control and problem-solving. The voice that says, "Let's take a breath and think this through."

AMYGDALA

The Fire Alarm

Your fight-or-flight centre. It shouts "Danger!" even when there's no real danger, and it takes the Wise Owl offline.

VAGUS NERVE

The Zen Master

Your secret weapon for calm. Slow, deep breathing activates it and tells your body it's safe.

THE RESET TIPWhen the Fire Alarm goes off, don't argue with it. Use your Zen Master through deep breathing to signal safety, so your Wise Owl can come back online and make a clear decision.

Who it's for.

Individuals

For when you feel overwhelmed, reactive, constantly switched on, stuck, or caught in cycles of pushing until you crash.

Leaders & teams

Responding to pressure with greater clarity, communication and intentional action.
